The Department of Education advises that it appears likely that at some point in the future a decision will be taken to close schools. This is not a step to be taken lightly and without due consideration to the significant consequences. The Department has stated that this is a decision that is being considered in line with guidance from the Chief Medical Officer and the Public Health Agency.
There is no immediate plan to close the school. This is in line with the current guidelines.
Please note that in order to safeguard the health and well-being of the entire Oakwood community, the school is only open to pupils and staff from Wednesday 18th March 2020. No visitors are being permitted entrance.
All external providers have been made aware of the no visitor policy. This means there will be no swimming, after school clubs or external tutors/ facilitators etc on site for the foreseeable future. Parent/Teacher Consultations have been cancelled, alongside Burns Sports Fundraising Event, Eco Day, Sports Day and any planned school trips.
In the event of an emergency school closure, pupils will be encouraged to continue to learn at home. As you are aware, each class uses Seesaw for communication with parents. The main source of Remote/Home Learning activities will be on Seesaw and Google Classroom. Your child’s teacher will share an access code to Google Classroom, via Seesaw, during the coming week. Please use the code to link to this online learning forum for the duration of any school closure. Please contact the class teachers, via Seesaw, if you have any difficulties accessing Google Classroom with the code provided.
Each pupil has access to Bugclub and the numerous e-books and other activities that support our reading scheme. We encourage all pupils to read every day and use online activities to improve mental recall. A variety of websites and links will also be shared via Seesaw and the school website www.oakwoodips.org
The health and wellbeing of the Oakwood school community remains our highest priority, and we will continue to update you of any developments as we are made aware of them.
