Oakwood Integrated Nursery Unit FULL-TIME NURSERY PLACES (8.45am - 1.15pm) from September 2026.
Oakwood Integrated Nursery Unit opened its doors in September 2019, leading on from the existing excellent provision of the pre-school which had been operational at Oakwood since 2001. In October 2020, we were delighted to open our brand new Nursery building.
Oakwood Integrated Nursery will have FULL-TIME NURSERY PLACES from September 2026.
We provide a high quality, enriching experience where children have opportunities to gain independence, develop initiative, make decisions and solve problems through varied active learning experiences, in an inclusive, integrated environment.
The Nursery Teacher ensures that classroom assistants in the nursery encourage and support children during play to enhance their skills, encourage thinking and extend their learning.
At Oakwood, we greatly value the support and involvement of parents and actively foster strong relationships with them providing a positive pre-school experience for all our children.
To provide a quality educational experience for the children in the Nursery, we follow the Pre-School Curriculum as set by the Department of Education for Northern Ireland.
The curriculum for pre-school education is set out under six discrete headings: The Arts; Language Development; Early Mathematical Experiences; Personal, Social and Emotional Development; Physical Development and Movement; and The World Around Us.
At Oakwood, we feel children should experience it in a holistic way through play and other relevant experiences.
These six areas of development are continued and built upon in Primary One and Two providing a cohesive, fluent approach to learning between and across the pre-school and the primary.
The Education Training Inspectorate (ETI) commended in our ETI Inspection Report, November 2024 that:
All teaching staff across the primary school and nursery unit have completed their Forest School training and the school received recognition as a Northern Ireland Forest School Association (NIFSA)* accredited Forest School in 2021.
Integrated Education Fund (IEF)
In 2022-2023, an application was submitted to the IEF Early Intervention/ Additional Needs Support programme. Despite being unsuccessful on this occasion, a very generous donation of £10,000 was made by Mr Alan Nappin, a great friend of the IEF, to support the purchase of equipment outlined in the original application. We were very touched by such generosity and were delighted to welcome Mr Nappin to the nursery in May 2025.
